The Salisbury Plain area has successfully bid for two rounds of LEADER funding, with Sustain the Plain (2002-2007) followed by Plain Action (2008 –2013). In total over £3.2m of grants has been handed to local communities, organisations and businesses. This funding has supported a variety of projects which include village halls refurbished, skills training provided, tourist attractions helped to expand, businesses helped with equipment or premises, and communities helped with items such as allotments.
What has been unique with both programmes has been the relationship with the Military in the area, and funded projects have included research into the effects of living in a military area and how the civilian community can benefit. Both programmes have benefited from having the most senior military commander on the Plain as a member, as well as having representatives from the local authorities, business community and voluntary sector. This wide spectrum of members has brought skills and insight to the partnership group which has allowed support for some very innovative projects.
Please do take time to have a look at the publications below which provide details of the projects funded under each programme.
