What?
Plain Action is a rural development programme running until December 2013.  It operates across the Salisbury Plain area and into part of Hampshire, and has a budget of £2.5m. Follow this link for a map of the boundary of the Plain Action Area.  It is a ‘Local Action Group’ directed by the Programme Management Group which is made up of local people..

Why?
The area has some of the issues common to many rural areas and some more specific. It aims to make the area a better place for all people to live and work in. It seeks to address issues and opportunities associated with the area’s significant military presence and with those of climate change.

Activities and projects
Its funding will go to projects and activities which address issues within three main areas:  skills development through learning and training, promotion and support of small businesses and employment, and strengthening communities.

Who does it ‘belong’ to?
You!  The whole idea of ‘Local Action’is that it belongs to local people – you.  Getting involved shows the different ways you can take part, and  The Programme Management Group shows how local people and organisations  are currently represented.  Do contact us  if you want to learn more, express a view, take part, or discuss funding.

LATEST NEWS - PLAIN ACTION FUNDING - 8th December 2011

In July 2011 Defra informed the Plain Action Management Group that the funding for the programme was to be reduced from £2.5m to £1.928m, a reduction of 22.88%.

All funds have now been allocated to projects. 42 projects across the Plain action area will benefit from help with funding. Please do look at the “Activities and Projects” page to see all the projects we have helped.

Fleur de Rhe-Philipe, Chairman of the Plain Action Management Group says, “It is disappointing to lose this funding when we had enough projects to spend the original amount and with it the associated benefit the community would have gained.”
